Weve all met dozens of epopel who either continued to play 2nd edition or abandoned the 40k aspect of the hobby with ther release of 3rd edition in September of 1999. And this feeling has only worsened with the release of 4th edition. One of my more intersting encounters was at Warcop military training camp, one fo the commanders overheard me and some guy discussign Orks and he revealed that he quit 40k because oft he awfulness and complete lack of realism that 3rd edition brought. We then discussed how you could actually perfrom effectively all the real military tactics using the 2nd edition system. Was intersting and yet again, the evidence is there, 2nd edition was decejnt fun and intersting, 3rd and 4th edition ar eno ore than commercialised dumbed down kids games.

Type slower Mike. With the two systems so different I don't see why they can't just package a few books and slap Warhammer 40,000 Classic on the top. It would a) rake in more money, b) get more fans in (and back) and c) make people like us happy (and we're hardly the Old Guard here).

They don't even need to keep selling the old rules or stuff like that, just accept people playing the older rules in store and have it officially recognised as a game rather than a hushed rumour of better times...

actually scratch that some of the suggested numbers might offthrow the balance of the game. it was nice to think about though. say, when do we get to do a campaign were long term strategies count

Peopel have started campaigns before but there mostly scrapped for being too ambitious. Luke tried one back in 2001 "The Battle for New Eden" but only me and Pang played in it, I think May maight have had a game in it as well. I think the best way to do a campaign is jsut have a groupo of poeple play a lot of games over a 2 week period. Long term people lost intersted and the regualr atteneders obviously do better ala Necromunda.

The best thing for campaigns would be ongoing mini campaigns between just 2 players. Like a grand objective overriding the games. I'll think on that.
Any chance of seasonal leagues? We'll need a prize, the first game against each over player is what counts in the time period (3 months?). It's a way of promoting gaming outside of tournaments and will give us tables to look at that aren't weighed down by the full club history (for example, if my win ratio went up to 60% it wouldn't effect my record for literally years of gaming).

How does that effect Eastern Fringe?

That remains to be seen. As it stands both boards are up and running and one mod even sits on both boards. In fact he started the HotH and helped start the Fringe. What the forum members will do I can't say but most of us old timers prefer the HotH because its dedicated to 2nd Ed. A version of the game the Fringe did its best to hide. As for me I plan to post on both boards. I'm hoping some the old Heretics lost in the blasphemes transition to the Fringe will return to the Heresy site know that its up again.
(How stands the house divided...)

I need to get into both, I'm supposed to be the Herald here. Lately I've been the Herald with a stress related Headache. OGC expanded (explosively) and I've been to rushed to do much else. I'll see you over there soon though.

Glad to see the second edition is still alive and well, found the site by accident, definately thought I was in the minority...there are still some of us lost souls in the South that didn't lose faith. I really don't understand why people play the latest edition, besides the cool minatures, but we use those anyway, so who's got the best deal...great rules, great minatures...oh we do. The updated rules look cool at first glance, they will definately be given a playtest in the very near future, great job there folks! As for "Warhammer 40k Platinum Edition" I'm suprised GW haven't jumped on that one already, a nice little earner! There are still some at GW that still play 2nd edition...
