I've been co-ordinating the social proceeding the 2nd September LoTR event. Just looking at our options (I've been told to go for a rock/metal night), I'm left with two: Rock of Ages at Leeds Uni Union or the Garage at the Cockpit. Which would people rather go to? Obviously have a look at their respective sites before you decide. www.myspace.com/rockofagesuk and www.thecockpit.co.uk (go to Club Nights then The Garage) Be thanking you!

I rememebr that Star place, that was okay. Would a union be any good or even open though, its still 3 weeks or so until freshers, at least it is up here. On a side note - does doing a post grad course make you a fresher again? I will be in the first year of a course at a new uni..... Personally i want the cheapest option, its not that im skint but ive a lot of money to find for this coming uni year.....£5,000 fees anyone?

This is going to sound really lame, but the Rock of Ages guy is on my myspazz, and he confirmed that there's one on the 2nd... In terms of price, RoA is probly cheapest at £4 advance, though if you have an NUS (it doesn't matter if it's this year's or last) then Cockpit is the same. A pint is £1.50 at RoA, whereas a double plus mixer is £1.80 at Cockpit. I don't know how much doubles are at RoA; they only sell bottles at Cockpit for £1.50 (so I've been told) My only worry with RoA is that whereas they play metal and rock in the same room in Cockpit (much like Star), there are separate rooms for metal and rock at RoA, which could mean losing some people, and lots of hopping between rooms. On the positive for RoA, though, it's within walking distance from our house so we won't have to pay train or taxi fares. Plus there's a decent cheap takeaway on the way home, £2 for an 11" pizza We've never actually been to RoA before, so I'm just going off what the bloke told me on myspazz. If we decide to go to RoA, we need to know how many people would be coming so we could get the tickets on the day, rather than paying on the door.

Bands have just been anounced for this week's Rock of Ages, so to all it concerns, have a look and let us know if you're interested in seeing them cause we'll have to go earlier. Just follow the link in the first post. If you can't be bothered to do that, then you're a lazy, lazy person.

Ahem, the thing that's showing is for last month's. I really should have checekd that before...
Anyway, the bands are 3milehigh and Pointe Blanke. Sometimes Rock of Ages has a decent covers band play, but obviously not this month. If no one minds then it looks like we'll be heading there for about eleven as originally planned!
PS Mike, it's £4 advance to get in, and £1.50 a pint so you're okay (we can lend you 50p if you need it!). Though we're planning a huge piss-up before we go.
