To begin I would like to point out that a PS3 is not on my shopping list, at the moment anyway, however there are some important things that people have dismissed regarding its launch. Firstly, the idea that the PS3 has flopped and is losing the console war, in quantitative terms it is the most successful console in gaming history so far. It sold 165,000 units in the first 2 days, more than double the XBox 360, as a side issue the Wii sold almost double the 360 with 100,000. Thus far then, approximately one in ever 300 people in the UK own a PS3, which considering all the price concerns is huge, and if anything all the issues over the price seem to point to the PS3 sales soaring in the future. Another criticism that I find both annoying and disturbing is the comment that its too difficult to develop for and therefore all the games will be on the other consoles. Well, to use an analogy, its much easier to write for a local newspaper than a national, yet were are the greatest rewards. To put it simply, the greatest innovations are going to and effectively can only be made on the PS3. If the big developers publish elsewhere, it matters not because the focus should be on the best developers. If the PS3 really is that hard to program for, then as a gamer I coudl'nt be more overjoyed. And finally about the launch line-up, in terms of next-gen I'm still waiting to see anything impressive on any of the consoles, which is consequently why I don't own any of the three. Ah yes I knew it had sold stupidly well, but thats why its worth mocking, if it had nose dived no one would care (DRREEEAAAAMMMMCCAAASSSSTTTTT)
PSlol is an easy mark for jokes because its being picked apart unlike any other launch I remember.
Also, there are games worth owning on all three next gen ones easily in my opinion
Wii = Zelda 360 = Gears Of War PS3 = MGS4 (fair enough its not out just yet)
Ideally I'd like all three, but fuck next gen I DEMAND FRONT MISSION 4 AND PUZZLE QUEST 2

I know someone at work who actually bought a PS3 and he thinks it is awesome, beating his Wii hands down. He pointed out that he actually thought that it was worth the amount of money that he paid for it, justifying the hefty price tag with "it's a blue ray player as well and they cost a fortune anyway, so it's a great deal".
I'm starting to come around to it, and anyway you can get 10% off them at virgin with a valid NUS card... Think about it, PS3 for £380...

Really it all comes down to if you want all the features it has which put that price above other consoles, but are cheap compared to getting them seperatly, as many people have yet to care about blu ray or HD DVD then it explains the perception of its expense, because that drive to them is worth nothing due to their lack of caring. To some extent I applaud the 360 for not forcing HD DVD on consumers and forcing the 360's price tag up, but at the same time its hardly going to help the former in the dual as no doubt Sony is doing by forcing a blu-ray player onto the ps3 owners, its sly and possibly advantageous for the gaming but I doubt thats their full reason for including said drive, I think they have the future of home cinema in mind as a conquest.

further proof that impressive UK PS3 sales don't mean an awful lot. my current view is shared with Havoc, that is FUCK NEXT GEN! PS2 has more on it at the moment (and in the pipeline) than those 3 combined

this would be funny if the wii wasn't leading global console sales and the PS3 wasn't 2nd. (figures in Japan are huge for Wii & minimal for 360) With the exception of MGS and FF & think I may put console gaming to rest however, I don't have the time anymore, . . . . curse growing up!

thats quite amusing if its true, seeing how the 360 had like a year headstart.
Life without consoles? MADNESS!?

The 360 has one minor problem in the console war. Calling it a piece of shit is subjective, not everyone agrees. Saying it has no good games on it is also subjective. It's one teensy little problem is a 33% fail rate. IT BREAKS THE FUCK DOWN. 1 in 3 is just going to die on its arse and needs its motherboard replacing to fix it. Microsoft are in deep shit for keeping it a secret (claining a 3-5% fail rate) and might fall foul of the Sales of Faulty Goods Act for selling these lemons when they knew they where faulty. Cue the 'Only Fools and Horses' photoshops.

That failure rate is ridiculous, kinda like Vista, everyone I know who has that complains about it non-stop. My mate installed it and it updates and destroys all open source software on his computer! If theres a 1 in 3 chance something i've spent hundreds of pounds on, not mention hardware and software, I'd be straight to Citizens Advice. Thats like selling a dodgy car, people shouldn't stand for it!
I imagine that Blu-Ray thing might on account of people not caring what discs games are on (I never realised purple backed PS2 discs were CDs until somebody pointed it out) and when it comes to DVDs I cant see people investing in Blu-Ray players in the near future. Barely any DVD's come have their main feature spread across 2 discs, and typically theres a big emphasis on 2 disc sets with the main feature etc on one and a different set-up for all the special stuff on the other. Added to that is box set culture, were data is spread across discs literally to go with the packaging, as it were some box sets could be on just a few discs but instead as people like having things laid out as they are they are not (if that makes sense). Theres quite a lot of research on the 'box set' so a quick search should/may pull it up thigh the internet is only a good source of knowledge if you know were to look nowadays (NOT WIKIPEDIA!!!!) but thats a different point. Yeah, errr, Blu-Ray is not practical in the mainstream at the moment, and who cares what the games are on . . . . . . . . .
