the number on the bottom right is a planeswalker's loyalty and comes into play with appropriate amount of loyalty counters, it may use one of its abilites a turn as a sorcery and most pay for the ability by adding or removing the appropriate amount of loyalty counters. So Liliana would have to use her discard ability 3 times before being able to use the -8 ability which would kill her. A planeswalker goes into the graveyard when it has no loyalty counters on it. A player may choose to remove a loyalty counter from a planeswalker they control instead of taking 1 damage. A player may also choose to deal any damage dealt to any opponent to one of their planeswalkers instead, removing that many loyalty counters
i like this new card type, it looks fun yet not overpowered

Plus spellshapers, although they're going to fit in weird.

DOn't hurt my head Mike! Two points. The obvious one: It's modal. Double goodies, your paying double blue and blue plus one for two seperate spells. The interesting one: It's part of a cycle that each colour has so there's more where that came from.
Lorwyn is doing good for utility cards so far. Cammand Cycle 2-out-of-4-in-one, Planeswalkers doing three different things for 'free', and that kithkin lord's multipurpose lockdown (note, wee's on commands).

could you counter your own counterspell with that? it cant counter itself because the target spell must already be on the stack, it could counter another counterspell though that you played *head hurts* the kithkin would never have seen print if Ravnica was still around, imagine it with the likes of Watchwolf and Loxodon Hierarch

A lot of these cards look insane, but there are two things to remember.
1: Every threat will have a countermeasure.
2: The most extreme cards so far have been symetrical.
