here's your thing on Sky Swallower
Sky Swallower: Timmy’s new Pet
Sky Swallower, the reputation of the Leviathan creature class isn’t improving, 5 mana for an 8/8 flier is very good yes, not so good when you’re opponent gains permanent control over the rest of your permanents, ah…but you’ve still got your 8/8 flier, NO! Don’t even think about sacrificing that Seal of Doom, or playing that Hit/Run, or that Confiscate, or that Boomerang, or that Condemn…meanie. As you can see there are far too many ways for your opponent to get rid of your Sky Swallower whilst keeping all your permanents. It is officially a junk rare; one I’ve not had the misfortune of acquiring. Now I suppose you’ll want some kind of way to make the Sky Swallower to work somehow, after much research I’ve found two ways to use it, one standard, one not. For the standard you need multiple Bronze Bombshell in play before you play the Sky Swallower, preferably at least 3, then play the Sky Swallower and your opponent gains control of all the Bombshells, they go boom, deal 21 damage and opponent goes boom. It all looks very good on paper, try getting 3 bombshells in play together, you’re opponent should realise you are up to something and the are not exactly difficult to get rid of. The other tactic is sneakier and involves Brand from Urza Block, first you need 6 mana, 2 of which must be Blue and 1 must be Red, spend your non-red mana playing the Sky Swallower, float the red mana and play Brand after the Sky Swallower has finished resolving, look at that you got all your permanents back and 8/8 flier for 6 mana. Although it seems a good combo, when did you last see and Brand and to be honest most players wouldn’t bother even if they had the Brand and the Sky Swallower, I know I’d rather just play a Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind or a Keiga, the Tide Star.
