It seems like as good a time as any to bring this up, I thought I'd get the go ahead for producing a unified marine codex (basically incorporating all the core rules, units and points costs together).
This would mean you'd only need the one document for all marine lists, we'd be able to incorporate OGC amendments and even attempt to sort out why space wolves are so much cheaper for better troops (as in either reduce their effectiveness or increase their points).
Anyone object if I start putting pen to paper?

Do my Legion count as Space Marines too? I guess they should really, they aren't too different

The Legion are pretty much a different army really!
I think what Simon is getting at is that the chapter variants are basically a differention of Veteran Squad ie Ultra = Tactical, Blood Angels = Assault , White Scars = bike (Space Wolves = devastator??) etc, so a unified codex would make sense with you tailoring your army to the theme given with the veteran choice. The characterful chapters usually get a special unit and some characters ie BA death company & Dante, Ultra = tyranid hunters & Calgar etc etc

The main reason behind this is pulling the space wolves into line with the rest of the main chapters. At the moment they are cheaper with better stats (some units such as Wolf Lords are cheaper than a captain).
One thing that drew my attention was a creating the space marine hero option - a commander style character that has a space marine hero stat line (codex imperialis) so you can have that style of leader in armies under 2000pts.

One thing I recently noticed is that Spacewolves troops are equipped differently than regular marines. Blood Claws, for example, don't come with Krak grenades. Long Fangs don't come with bolters. If you add those in, the prices come much closer to what you'd expect (290 for 10 bloodclaws, and 172 for 5 Long fangs and a power axe, or 330 for 10 without a power axe). "Regular" assault marines come with krak grenades instead of bolters, and "regular" devastators come with bolters.
Blood Claws are only leadership 7, which could account for the lower points cost.

There ARE variables to take into acount, but are they still broken with that? Ah, stressful AND boring. Feels like coming home

looking through the Space Wolf list, they are very different in make-up. For example they do not have Tactical Squads, their only source of heavy weapons is there scouts and the long fangs, meaning that its impossible for them to effectively defend those weapons. Their main assault troops having LD 7 is also a big factor, that's a 45% chance of becoming shaken.
The one exception is their veteran squad which is 5-20 with no weapons cap, i believe that they should have the heavy selection stripped from them unless they are in terminator armour to bring them in line with the Grey Hunters.
