Ok, so your bikes been penetrated, and your opponent has rolled a 5 or 6.
'The bike explodes killing the rider and hurtles out of control' blah blah something to that effect.
Now what happens if your bike is being ridden by a character?
In todays game against chaos, both my characters died instantly the moment the bike was destroyed. Pretty harsh if your a character, especially seen as you had a Conversion field.
Do you agree that this should happen? Or when the card says 'killing the rider' is it just refering to a standard bike?
I think, as a character you should be allowed your saves against the bike exploding, its probably still going to hurt, but in a lot of cases I guess they could survive.
Thoughts?

Yarlens right the rule is written in the same manner for lots of units. The type of passenger in a Rhino doesn't matter either. If it explodes they die. Nice and simple.
Now it would be nice if the rules were more detailed in these regards. If it were me I'd give an auto wound then make him roll for dismount damage if applicable. After all you guys at OGC already have mods for transports so its a logical extension.

Its a tough one really. Im kinda with the serves you right brigade, that Librarian was generally safer on that bike, armour 11 meant he wasnt gonna get boltered to death and had he been on foot he would have been further back with a heavy bolter in his face.
Potentially - damage result 4 does 1 damage + a fall off. result 5 does D3 damage and a fall off and result 6 does D6 damage and a fall off.

Id like to see that really, its still gonna hurt, but means you dont face auto death by using a bike.
Even if you survive the bike explosion, your likely to be out in the open on your own.
See what more people think.

you remeber when i told you about mounting the characters on bike-soon to be fireball? the most simple idea, that comes to my empty head, is let do the basic armor save. just like in exploding rhino.

I really want to keep the characters in my army mounted as its quite characterful of my army and Ideally thats how I want them to work.
But with 2 out of 6 instant death results on the bike location table, its just too risky.
Perhaps make 5 - they can have normaly armour and sheilds from the damage due to a bike ram?
and 6 - instant death (the bikes fuel tanks did explode).

I'm leaning towards a single auto wound here, but cannot justify it in narrative terms. It just distinguishes characters from troops without leaving crew hopping around the battlefeild like fleas.

Obviously crew should be instant killed.
But its so harsh having all your characters explode in a ball of flames, when they easily have enough protection to have a good chance of survival against anything else in the game.

Another alternative is a ram on the rider, something like D6 ram hits might prove interesting, just an idea though

D6 ram hits would almost certainly kill most rieders would it not?

Survive... IF you're tough enough.

Being hit with a bike is exactly the same as being shot with a heavy bolter, if I'm remembering right.

i still think armour save is good solution. so you have a chance of surviving only if you wear sealed powered armour or good carapace.

Yep, just like a HB hit.

the armour save woould be abused as it would simply give a Khrone Chaos Lord Movement 30" with no real consequences (2+ save).
We have begun using this - Dam. Result 4 - 1 auto wound Dam. Result 5 - D3 auto wounds Dam. Result 6 - D6 auto wounds
