I’ve never run across this situation, but I’m very likely to soon. The Tyranid power Psychic Scream forces each enemy psyker to roll against their toughness and leadership or suffer dire results. How would it affect a squad of Grey Knights? The entire squad counts as a single psyker, but you generally nominate a single one to be initiating a psychic power. Daemonic attack only affects the model actually using the power. But psychic scream affects all psykers. So here’s the options I think it could take:
The power affects a single member of the squad.
The power affects the entire squad. Roll once and apply the results to each member.
The power affects each squad member individually. Roll for each member of the squad.
Also, would this affect an allied Ork weirdboy? Fluffwise, this would never happen, but we’re introducing two newbies to 2nd Ed with a 4-man, two-way game, so the Orks and Tyranids are teaming up against Eldar and Grey Knights (with the noobs controling the Tyranids and Grey Knights). So in this case, how would it affect the ‘allied’ psyker?

I'd say randomate one squad member to suffer the effects. Same goes for Daemons casting. You cant be too harsh or the power will become over powerful against specific enemies.
As for an Ork weirdboy, the psychic scream isnt necessarily warp based in its effect, it just draws on the warp to create its power, thus an Ork would suffer the normal effects.

Thanks for the imput, Mike! Actually, I was more interested in the "allied psyker" part than the "ork weirdboy." I agree, psychic energy is psychic energy, regardless of how it's generated. I was just wondering if the Tyrant (or Patriarch/Magus) could exempt 'friendly' psykers from the effects of the scream, or if the weirdboy had better keep his distance.

I would say it only affects enemys.
In a similar situation we have had necrons allied with various other armys (in fun battles) and we have negated the necrons disruption for allies.. imagine if all the necron units stopped all friendly tanks from working :s

Put me in for effecting one random squad member.
As far as allies go I'd say it impacts all non-Nid psykers but given the sittuation you decribe I'd overlook this and apply the scream only to the enemy.

Only 4 votes? What, does no one have an opinion?!? Come on! Tell me what you think? If you're really feeling brave, you can even tell me why.

Why? Simply because only one squad member is nominated to actualy cast a power at any given time. If the scream impacts someone it should be the active psyker. Impacting all of them simply is to powerful to considern in terms of game balance and the power/cost effect ratio.

This is kinda like two different debates...
As for an allied psyker being effected, i'd say it would be - its the warp, its not safe! Plus it would show nebies what a dangerous ans volatile thing commanding psychic weapons is
