me and mike were discussing the possibilty of expanding the mainstay unit idea to other things, including terminators and the like.. il use ultramarines as an example altho the mainstay unit would vary for each chapter. so for each tactical squad you take that gives you the option to take, one vehicle, one terminator squad, one devastator, one assault, one veteran squad etc. so basically ultramarines would have to take at least one tactical squad in every army. eg for blood angels the mainstay unit would be assault squads. i know many people wouldnt like this idea, im not entitrely sure about it myself, should a player be able to field an entirely terminator army? would that actually happen as far as story line is concerned? i just thought id post the idea and see what ppl thought.

Yes, all terminators armies are seen in battle (battle for Macragge as you should know), whole devastator armies exist in chapters as a reserve company. The Blood angels would not have a mainstay unit of assault squads as they've got as many tactical marines as any other chapter. I think that putting mainstay units into armies actually limits the variety too much by far, and the points work out balanced enough anyway without needing to worry about it.+

Wouldnt affect me, all my armys have more than enough squads of basic troops in them.
I dont particularly think its a requirment though, so long as a player isnt taking the piss.

yeah its more just something to think about to make a good army, doesnt need to be a rule.
