checking the tournament army lists highlights this very well; www.ogc.org.uk/tournament10/T10%20army%20lists.htmlall the armies give away very similar VPs in total, however when you group the marine vehicles into squads (chaos & imperial), the VP total goes below what is achievable for other armies. Is it feasible to put in more stringent restrictions on vehicles squads? Again though, this could hurt all other armies bar those it intends to restricts more.

Our group did away with VPs years ago. We had a battle come down to where one player had wiped out the other players army completly but the other play won with VPs. Dosent make any sense to me. We now keep track of every model that is taken out (tic marks over the squad or character on the army sheets). Then we tally up the actual cost of the models at the end of battle. Models from squads are equal to the average value. Tends to work alot better than VPs though it takes a little longer.

We have the rule that in the event of a wipeout, in 2000 pt games, the score is auto 25-0 (1VP per 100 points plus 5 bonus VPs)

If there is no army to hold the field then there can be no victory. No need to count points at all. The last army standing must be the victor.

In event of wipeout our rule formally is 1 VP per 100 points in the battle +5 as a wipeout bonus kind of like a mission but to also equalise VP disparities available from armies
Back to vehicle squads any ideas? WQe currently use a system whereby every vehicle in a squad has effectively 2 pts, if it is damaged it is down to 1 point. If the total 'points' the squad has at the end of the game is half or less of the start then the vehicle squad counts as halved for VP purposes, so you can score points off of a vehicle squad without actually destroying any of them.

My thought I came up with today is based around heavier vehicles that are bought as individual models in the list rather than vehicles that should be in squadrons and it basically revolves around VPs (as the problem to my mind is that you can optimise the VPs too drastically in some armies under the existing system).
I'd propose that the VPs for destroying a squadron should be the same as the VPs for the vehicles separately, but keep the VPs the same as they are for when the vehicles are all damaged. This should save VPs if the squadron is 'halved' but not be too overpowering in terms of altering the overall VPs.

I guess if one army had, say Engage and Destroy, or Guerrilla War, and managed to get lots of VP, and perhaps the opponent had Dawn Raid, and failed to complete it, but completely eliminated the opposing force, while sustaining high casualties itself, the eliminated force could still eck out a victory. Though I'd tend to agree with Tturen: If you have no army left, you can't really claim victory. Unless your object was not to achieve anything, but instead to deny something to your opponent. But that would tend to be a custom scenario, rather than a standard mission card.

Our VP scoring system works by if a player is completely wiped out then they score zero and their enemy scores 1 VP per 100 points used (we use multiples of 5 only ie 5,10,15 etc) + 5 for a custom mission wiping out bonus (applies even when mission cardsg are not in use). basically getting wiped out is pretty much the worst thing that can happen to you OGC stats!
As mentioned, fighting for nothing fits more of a custm scenario, a heavilly mauled army that obliterates another still wins the field and ultimately everything
this kind of a tangent to the main topic though which will have a firm update before the next tournament (vehicles below 100 points cant be group etc) also the ork update forces the light vehicles into squads to avoid this problem occuring, as such custom vehicles squads could be done away with altogether???
