The current top 8 players in the club are.... 1 - Brandon 2 - Brown 3 - May 4 - Townley 5 - Berkley 6 - Gray 7 - Asita 8 - Greensmith
[even though Tim harness played in the previous Tournament, he has not played enough games to be ranked]
Removing Brown, Brandon and Gray based on last years podium positions, that leaves May, Townley, Berkley, Asita and Greensmith to play for qualifiers. Therefore over the next 2-3 months everyone on this list could do with playing the other 4 people [thats just 4 games in that set time] to establish a top 5 table, the top 3 qualifying for T-2007. The qualifiers wont have particular limits, simply 2000 points, no missions [to keep VPs equal] .
After this the bottom 2 will have to face play-offs against other entrants in order to qualify. the top 2 of this group may also be seeded into different groups in the final tournament.

Provisionally From Monday April 2nd to Wednesday April 4th, OGC will be holding an event in Liverpool. For all those who are in the 40k qualifying group, can you please make as many days as possible in order to get games done. Tonight's games...
Mark Berkley causes an upset claiming a 14-9 victory over Andy Townley, his first win since returning to OGC, for almost seven years. This leaves Townley in a precarious situation, in the past 2 tournaments his pre-tournament form has succumbed to bad performances and the same seems to be happening again. His final opponent is Luke Greensmith, the player who has managed to beat him in the first round two years running. In the following game, Monovie Asita, desperate for a win to keep his qualification chances alive also fell to Mark's re-formed Legion army. Despite initially controlling the game a series of events including a snake eyes roll for wounding the Legion Captain, the Fire Prism catching itself, a disastrous combat by the dreadnought leaving it crippled by a Librarian all capped off with the Farseer being dragged away from a Daemonic Attack turned the game aorund into a convincing win 18 - 8 for Mark Berkley. These games mean that Mark has already qualified for a place in Tournament 2007, despite only having played half of his qualifying games. This marks an amazing return to OGC action for th player who finished on the podium in 1999 and narrowly missed out on reaching the 2000 Final. The latter result gives Charly some hope however, if he can defeat Luke Greensmith in his final game, he will finish above Monovie no matter what, and will then need Luke to slip up in order to reach the qualfiying places.

Today's Qualifier....
Monovie Asita stuttered to end his hopes for qualification after a 15 - 13 draw with Luke Greensmith today. Luke began the game in force, drawing most of his points from his initial Land Speeder attacks on the Eldar Grav Tanks. However the Eldar slowly hit back, and despite some unlucky moments managed to take the command in terms of VP's. Despite taking command of the field however, it did seem like the Eldar had succumbed to defeat, the scoreline surprising everyone, however a draw was not enough for Monovie who now cannot climb higher than 4th in the group whatever happens. Instead he now faces the qualifier play-offs in late May/early June. As for Luke, this sets off his qualifying bid well, and all eyes are on his game against Andrew Townley, victory for Luke there would be enough to qualify.

Close games that ebb and flow over time. That does sound like fine grounds for some extended battle reports.
In any case congrats to all of you on the tourney exploits. Its high time we had another one ourselves.

Tonights qualifiers
Adam May 15 - 4 Luke Greensmith
Luke Greensmith 11 - 11 Andy Townley [draw]
Adam May continued to gather pace with a comfortable win against Luke Greensmith. Taking the initiative Luke was on the backfoot from turn one, and the bulk of May's force didn't even have to bother getting to involved leading to a decisive victory for the Orks, and allowing May to recapture pole position in the group. His last game is against Mark Berkley to decide the top position in the group.
In the following game, a win for Andrew Townley would see him qualify over Luke, whereas a defeat would result in Luke qualifying. The early game went much in Luke's favour and the trend carried on for much of the game. A shaky dreadnought move that resulted in Luke screaming 'Overwatch' made Charly jump in shock much to the amusement of the games audience. However Luke became sloppy at key points, pressing his force into suicidal positions whilst at the same time missing chances to collect begging VP's. In the end it seemed like a victory for Luke, but after the points were totted up the scores were level. This moved Luke into 4th place, but with one game remaining only victory would be enough to avoid relegation to the open qualifiers.
This means that Luke must beat Mark Berkley to qualify, otherwise Charly [andy] makes the cut and Luke goes to Leeds to face Tim Harness and the Tau. Elsewhere, Monovie Asita looks set to face James Fawcett in the other open qualifier in may.

Tonight's Qualifier
Mark Berkely 12 - 6 Luke Greensmith
In a game that looked to be headed Luke's way, it all fell apart in the closing moments, spurring another victory in Mark's remarkable winning streak. For Luke is spelled the end of hopes for automatic qualification into the Tournament, as Andy Townley took the final place from the qualifiers. With Tim Harness being awarded the 7th Tournament place for his efforts last year, it leaves Luke Greensmith, Monovie Asita and others to battle for the final Tournament place. Luke remained upbeat however that he would make it into the Tournament.

Luke Greensmith rues oversight
Luek Greensmith echoes his disdain at an oversight which meant Mark Berkely's teleporting Dreadnought, was in fact lost to the warp, following a roll of double 1 for its scatter. However, the Dreadnought was scatter 2" instead. Given the Dread scored 4 VP's and its death would have given Luke a further 2 would have meant the game could still have gone his way. In wake of the oversight the decision has been made to award Luke 2 further VP's on account of the Dreadnought however the points it scored and other impacts (such as terror sending a squad fleeing) cannot be accounted for meaning victory still lies n Mark's hands! The amended score is 12 - 8
