Woo!! Converted myself a mounted librarian to be used as an Epilstolary in my white scars force.
Wasnt sure how it would come out (im not that great at painting), but im really pleased with the result and the paint job is better than i expect of myself. Will get some pics up now ;D

Looks great, from what I can tell! I like the blue & green sword. I've never tried a librarian on a bike, only with a jumppack. How are you planning on equipping him?

Not really got that far ahead, dont have a space marien codex to hand and I dont know whats available, he'l be an eppistolary and roughly the army will be: Epistolary Tech marien about 20 bikes + 3 attack bikes Predator Dred So lots of firepower, and very fast should be fun to play with. 2 Land speeders

Well my entire army is going to be mounted on bikes.. so if they are all soon to become fireballs so be it.. but let the results be the judge of that.
Poor poor picture, but the camera is 2 mega pix.. not too bad, just couldnt get it to focus on close detail, and bad lighting.

Is a librarian capable of leading the army? Or do you need a captain in there somewhere?

Well under the offical rules, you always have to take a captain.. but as there is only one captain to each chapter (i think thats right), and each chapter obviously has several forces deployed in an area at once, it is impossible for a captain to attend every battle.
So we have introduced the option to have any character lead our armys, some players have their tech marien leading, yeah ill prob use my librarian.

Actually, it's one Grand Master (or equivalent: Great Wolf, Commander, etc) per chapter, and 1 captain per company. So for most chapters, that's ten captains. For the Space Wolves, who knows? Most techmarines are only champion-level characters, comparable to a Veteran Sgt. or an Apothecary. Not exactly qualified for leading a platoon. You could also use a Leutenant as a commander, using Mighty hero stats (4 6 6 5 5 2 6 2 9), and a cost of, I believe, about 60 points. What level is an Espistolary?
On a side note, make certain you don't give any of your characters displacer fields. Just imagine, you're racing top speed towards your enemies when a stray autogun round triggers your displacer field, moving you ten feet in front of your bike. First you take damage from a high-speed dismount, and then you're likely to get run over by your own ride!

yup lol, I wasnt thinking about it anyway. Think either we have changed those rules, or removed that wargear because no one uses those anymore in OGC.
Epistolary is level 3.. one lower than best pyscer, so id say hes prob fine for leading a 2000 point army.
Think the whole 'not needing' your top level commander in our games goes hand in hand with the fact with have drasticly reduced the capabilities of such characters, so they are a bit of a points sink.

I'd argue the opposite. A top level commander is always going to be useful, so I'd either take a captain or chief librarian. When it comes down to it, most marine players in OGC don't use their characters correctly; they think they are amazingly tough and can stand up to anything coming at them. What they forget is how easy a character is to kill anyway. I introduced Wojtek to 2ed. last week, he enjoyed it and used his Captain in the proper way. His captain basically patrolled his lines, hanging back so that he could get the charge in on anyone who got through to his lines. Basically, he used him in a supporting role rather than focussing on his captain obliterating the whole enemy army (I know that I've been guilty of this on many occasions)

Having the Epoistolary in my army is completly down to fun, having never had the chance to play with the psycic phase, I feel like I deserve a little go By no means is he a large part of my battle plan, the main force can function completly independantly from him. My entire force being mounted, means leadership skills wont be needed, the chars are just there for the beef. Also got a 3 bike squad with some special weapons in it for the same points value as the Epistolary, so I can swap and change as I see fit.
