Well, for Harlequins, powerful ranged options are limited to Bright Lance, Fire Pike, and Death Jesters. Pretty much characters. For the troupers, they'll just have to use their movement of 6 to dance out of the way of the disruption field. Other forces will just have to figure out some other way to beat them. And even if the necrons charge into close combat, the Harlequins can flip out, move 6", and shoot. So I guess they'll be okay. They'll just need to focus on short-range firepower, rather than close combat as they usually do. After thinking this through a little more, I'm sure they won't be automatically doomed to lose any fight against the necrons. It won't be an easy battle, by any means, but they still have a chance.
So the verdict is that the necron disruption field affects everything from Heavy Plasma guns to tyranid Venom Cannons to slung rocks. If it's ranged, it's affected. Unless it's an auto-hit weapon (blunderbuss, ripper gun, flamer, etc).

Aye pretty much. You have to improvise against the Necrons really and also put yourself in their 'shoes', I imagine its a daunting prospect looking at the battlefield as a Necron player.

yeah so with your 6" move you should be able to flip out of range and still use your krak nades effectivley. In most cases its often possible to back away from the disruption zone, and thats where its down to the necron player to try and box you in or swamp you with enough stuff you cant escape it.
Whatever the situation in 40k it should be maneuvering that increases the odds in your favor, not just a simple rule that requires no brain power after having selected your army.

James,
Which races gave you the most trouble as a Necron Player? Also, what type of army was the most infuriating?

I found it most difficult playing against orcs, necrons have so few guns that I struggled to do anything more than supperficial damage to their troops, the vehicles coud be dealt with, but even so i'd rather face a couple of heavy tanks than a few squads of buggies.
I did play a lot with the necrons but for years I constantly got beaten, then I had a two year gap with them and came straight into the first tournament that id got past group stage and won it, shortly after that I change race, so I guess I didnt get all that much experience of winning with the necrons, just one solid tournament.

I think the Eldar have the best weapons for dealing with Necrons. Wraithcannons and D-Cannons kill them with no chance of repair. (Plus Wraithguard are very hard to kill, and have BS 6 if a Warlock is within 8" of them) Shuriken catapults are only S4, but get 1 sus-fire die, and are -2 to save. And best of all is the Avatar of Khaine: with T8 he can ignore all S4 weapons, and at S8 he can hurt anything. At BS 10, he can still hit a flying destroyer while being mobbed by regular necrons. A Bloodthirster of Khorne is also quite excellent, with added mobility over the Avatar. Granted, he costs summoning points, but Berserkers shouldn't have too much trouble earning those, even though they may be hard-pressed to actually put any Necrons down.
